What Causes Yellow Stains On Mattress?
Often, we face yellow stains on a mattress, which doesn’t look so good on the bed. Many reasons cause stains. The mattress can discolor because of aging, which happens because of material oxidization.
It is inevitable, but you can slow down the discoloring by keeping the mattress away from sunlight. Also, your bed exposed to your sweating, bodily fluids that may cause the stains.
Now, we can’t change the mattress every time we face stains problem because changing mattresses could be expensive, especially when you buy a costly luxury mattress. So, we try to remove the stains by using commercial products or chemicals.
But when you can clean a mattress by only using household products, why spend money on them? Here I will discuss the potential causes of stains and how to remove them by using simple household products.
Ingredients
The main parts are baking soda, salt, water, and lavender essential oil to clean the mattress. The accessories you’ll need to clean the bed are a filter, a bowl, clean clothes, and a vacuum cleaner.
The Process
First, mix up the baking soda and few drops of lavender oil in the bowl. Then strain the mix. After that, to vacuum the mattress, strip the bed. Now shake the mix and spread it all over the mattress. At last, leave it to dry and off the vacuum.
Now, to clean mattress stain, make a paste of baking soda, salt, and water. Then abrade the stain with the mix and leave it for 30 minutes. After that, wipe away the mix and get a blemish-free mattress. Cover it with beautiful sheets and use them as you may.
More Types of Stains and their Removal Process
The removal process of stains can be done quickly by identifying the satins type. If you are facing yellow stains in your mattress, it may cause either sweating or bedwetting. To clean these types of stain, you should follow the process billow:
First, take three tablespoons of baking soda and a few drops of washing liquid into a cup. Then pour hydrogen peroxide about 3% of the total solution. Now mix it well until the baking soda completely dissolves. Then spray the mix over the stain and allow it to soak the solution. Then let it dry for a couple of hours. You can fasten the drying process by using a hairdryer or fan.
If your mattress has bloodstains, cleaning it is slightly different because you have to act early and start the cleaning process as soon as possible. Just spray that hydrogen peroxide mix that has mentioned above and blot the stain with a cloth or towel. Do the operation several times until the stain goes away. Then dry the mattress as before.
The removal process and solution for stains of vomit is different than others. But that doesn’t mean it is not easy. Just mix water and white vinegar, and the answer is ready. The ratio should be half and half for the mix. Spray the solution to the stained area and rub it with a towel. Repeat the process several times. Then sprinkle some baking soda and keep blotting. After that, dry vacuum away the excess baking soda and dry the mattress.
Liquid Persistent Stains
In case of persistent stains, you should be careful; otherwise, it can form mold and mildew in your mattress. Blot as much as you can by using a towel until there is no more liquid to absorb.
Make a mixture of water and washing up liquid. Scoop the suds from the mix with a clean cloth. Now, start rubbing in circular over the stain. Continue kneading until the satin disappear.
If the stain doesn’t remove altogether, then use hydrogen peroxide and leave it for five minutes. Then start blotting with a dry towel until the stain goes away entirely. Then let the mattress dry.
Pro Tips for Mattress Caring
It would help if you cleaned the mattress by professional mattress cleaner once in a year. Experts can do it better. Change the bed sheets regularly. It stops multiplying dead skin and dust mites.
If you can afford it, then using a protective mattress cover will be a good idea to prevent the stains. Also, it would help if you flipped the mattress every three months to keep it cleaner for a more extended period.
